TikTok creator Trevor Reid, who posts as @notrealtrevorreid, says a DNA test led him to uncover a family secret involving his mother’s biological father. In a video described by The Daily Dot as having more than 744,000 views and nearly 3,000 comments, Reid recounts how his grandmother rejected his conclusion. The publication said it could not independently verify his account.
Reid said he took a 23andMe test in 2021 out of curiosity about his ancestry, then set the results aside. Four years later, he began looking more closely at his mother’s family, particularly the identity of her biological father. He said his mother had spent little time with the man she believed was her father, and that Reid had never known him personally.
As he examined his DNA matches, Reid said, he found relatives on his mother’s side he did not recognize. A second cousin helped him identify some of them, and he continued researching for about a year and a half. He said he eventually concluded that his mother’s biological father was a different man, who had died.
Reid said he found a daughter of that man who resembled his mother and contacted her. She agreed to take a DNA test, which, according to Reid, showed that she was his aunt and his mother’s half-sister.
He said he shared the findings with his maternal grandmother, expecting answers, but she denied them and said she did not remember. The article’s headline refers to a reported restraining order, but its account does not provide details about it.
Comments on the video reflected differing reactions: some commenters described their own unexpected DNA discoveries, while another advised Reid to leave the matter alone, noting that revisiting the past could be traumatic for someone else.
