A TikTok creator married for nearly 14 years is challenging online advice that suggests couples should feel constant excitement or treat ordinary frustrations as proof that something is wrong. In a video posted on Oct. 12, 2026, @amandanelz described marriage as a relationship that can move through both joyful and difficult stretches. The video had received about 263,100 views and 48,900 likes at the time of publication.
She said couples may go through periods of dating, enjoying their sex life and feeling fascinated by each other, as well as less exciting days marked by exhaustion, a sick child or irritation over a forgotten household chore. Those moments, she argued, can be part of an ordinary Tuesday rather than evidence of a bad marriage.
The creator recalled meeting her husband while she was receiving food stamps. They later faced financial hardship, made more money and changed careers. She said the couple have also changed as people over the course of their relationship. Their longevity, in her view, came in part from not treating difficult financial periods or uneventful stretches as emergencies.
She said a long marriage means continuing to get to know each other as both partners change. Her husband now supports her music career, joining her on stages and in the studio, and she sees herself as different from the person he originally asked to marry. “It’s about finding somebody that you actually wanna keep meeting,” she said.
She also questioned why people take marriage advice from someone whose relationship they would not want to emulate, including people who have never been married. The comments included a viewer’s concern about couples using ChatGPT to settle arguments, as well as accounts from people describing difficult periods in their own long-term relationships.
The Daily Dot said it could not independently verify the creator’s account. The details of her marriage and the commenters’ experiences reflect what they shared on TikTok.
