TikTok creator Groovy, who posts as @groovyrockerchick, says living with college roommates changed how she thought about other people’s hygiene. In a video, she described one roommate whose habits left her shocked and whose cooking stained Groovy’s hand towels. The video had 1.1 million views and 568 comments at the time of publication, according to The Daily Dot.

Groovy said she had assumed most women showered regularly and kept up with chores such as sweeping, mopping, washing dishes and vacuuming. After moving in with roommates, she realized that people’s routines could be very different from her own.

She recalled being able to smell one roommate’s room even with the door closed, and said the roommate did not appear to clean often. Groovy also said she was the only person in the home who regularly cleaned shared spaces.

The incident that particularly upset her involved a set of pink towels decorated with gingerbread figures. Groovy said her roommate would wipe her hands on them after cooking without first rinsing them, leaving food and sauce stains.

The video’s comments included people who said they preferred to shower every day, while others described circumstances that made regular showers difficult, including depression and chronic illness. Some commenters also shared suggestions for making showering less demanding.

The Daily Dot said it could not independently verify Groovy’s account, which was based on her description in the TikTok video.
