Rain, a Gen Z CEO who runs a six-figure social media agency, said a recent interview with a prospective intern changed how she viewed stereotypes about her generation’s workplace reputation. In a TikTok video, posted under the account @rainjg13, she described asking the applicant whether she had looked at the company’s website or Instagram and whether any of its clients had caught her interest.
According to Rain, the applicant initially said she had seen some podcast clips on the website but could not name a client she found interesting. When asked directly, she acknowledged that she had not reviewed the company’s content. Rain said she ended the interview, taking the exchange as a sign that the candidate had not made an effort to learn about the business.
Rain said some Gen Z applicants she has interviewed have not shown much enthusiasm for the work, but added that she also employs Gen Z workers who are hardworking and productive. She said the experience made her think that some criticism of younger workers’ professionalism and work ethic may have a basis, while noting that her account reflects her personal experience.
The video drew close to 611,000 views and 1,924 comments, according to the source article. Some commenters said they had encountered applicants who knew little about the companies they were interviewing with. Others pushed back on the generational generalization, arguing that unprofessional workers exist in every age group and that many Gen Z employees are doing well.
The Daily Dot said it could not independently verify Rain’s account of the interview.
