Autumn, a TikTok creator known as @leafittoautumn, says her mother-in-law called the bridal shop where she had chosen her wedding dress and asked to see it. The shop contacted Autumn first to ask whether it had her permission to show the dress, according to her account in a video that received 516,400 views and 391 comments.

Autumn said she had been dating her future husband for years before they became engaged but never developed a close relationship with his parents. When she went dress shopping during the COVID-19 pandemic, limits on how many people could attend meant she brought only her mother and sister. She later shared news of her choice on social media.

According to Autumn, her mother-in-law then contacted the store to see the dress. Autumn said she was surprised by the request and felt it threatened the surprise. She also said that when she confronted her mother-in-law, the latter denied calling the shop and acted as though Autumn had invented the story.

Many commenters criticized the reported call, while others recounted their own difficult experiences with in-laws. Some also praised the bridal shop for checking with Autumn before showing anyone her dress.

The Daily Dot said it could not independently verify Autumn’s claims, which are based on her personal account in the video.
