TikTok creator @agoldenway shared a video describing behaviors that parents may frame as discipline, love or concern, but which she said can amount to control when they happen repeatedly. The video, posted Jan. 17, had received 499,900 likes at the time of publication.

One example involved parents reacting to an adult child’s decision by calling them selfish or accusing them of causing hurt. The creator said this can shift responsibility for the parents’ discomfort onto the child, describing the behavior as manipulation rather than guidance.

She also pointed to parents who decline to apologize but expect their children to forgive them and move on. In the video, she argued that being a parent does not exempt someone from accountability, and said these patterns are neither normal nor healthy.

The creator told viewers who recognized the behaviors from childhood that they were not alone or “crazy.” In comments, some viewers shared experiences they said felt familiar, including disagreements over schooling and privacy. The Daily Dot said it could not independently verify the events described in the video or confirm the identities of commenters.
