A TikTok creator has described how alleged bullying by a manager affected her work and personal life, saying the experience led her to leave journalism. In a video, @lucyblancc said her boss took credit for her work and that she was paid £20,000 less than a new employee she had hired. The video was posted on March 19 and had received 226,400 views at the time of publication, according to The Daily Dot.
She said she began working for a national newspaper after the employer noticed her video-editing skills online. Before that, she had built a TikTok following of around half a million and made money through brand deals and trips. She described her first year at the newspaper as fulfilling, explaining that her role involved editing videos rather than writing articles.
According to her account, the situation changed after a new manager arrived. She said he micromanaged and bullied her, tried to take away her title and claimed credit for her work. She also said other employees had complained about him, but that her treatment was not taken seriously.
She said she resigned in 2023, but the company moved her to another country rather than letting her leave. After she was later returned to the manager’s team, she said conditions worsened. She described herself as a senior employee who had hired a new colleague, yet earned £20,000 less. When she raised the difference with her boss, she said he told her not to discuss pay.
The creator said the experience left her disillusioned with work and contributed to depression and alcohol problems. She also described being in debt and returning to escort modelling. She said she has not yet got back on her feet and has decided to leave journalism, adding that workplace abuse is not discussed enough.
The Daily Dot said it could not independently verify the events described in the video. The details in this report reflect @lucyblancc’s account on TikTok.
