A restaurant owner and chef says a customer left after insisting she should be able to order brunch at about 3:45 p.m., when the restaurant was serving its dinner menu. He described the encounter in a post on Reddit’s r/EntitledPeople, which had collected more than 15,000 upvotes and 1,082 comments, according to the source article.

The poster said the restaurant serves lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., then switches to dinner, with an Early Bird special available from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. On Sundays, brunch is offered during lunch hours. When the couple arrived, the server told them brunch had ended and offered the dinner menu instead. The customers asked to speak with a manager, who repeated the explanation before calling the owner.

According to the owner’s account, the woman showed him her phone and argued that the restaurant’s website still entitled her to brunch. He said he checked the site on his own phone and showed her that brunch was available only until 3 p.m. He told the couple they could order from the Early Bird or dinner menus, or leave. The woman ordered a coffee and then left.

Her husband stayed, ordering a 22-ounce porterhouse steak, a 22-ounce beer and two large sides for $22, the post said. He later ordered dessert and left a 24% tip. The owner also said the restaurant pays employees a living wage and does not require or expect tips.

The Daily Dot reported that it could not independently verify the events, which were based on the Reddit user’s personal account.
