Nieman Lab has launched a weekly quiz focused on the latest stories and debates in digital journalism. The initiative, published on October 30, 2026, turns coverage about the news industry into a recurring test of readers’ knowledge.

The questions are based on stories published by Nieman Lab during the week, as well as articles linked through its “What We’re Reading” feature. The quiz includes 10 questions and addresses topics such as Bob Woodward’s upcoming memoir, Meta’s proposed terms of service, transparency in news videos and the relationship between journalists and online platforms.

Other questions cover former 60 Minutes chief Bill Owens joining an online startup and an Egyptian court order targeting an independent news outlet. The quiz also examines why freelance journalist Zack Addy received little interest after sending numerous pitches, including the impact of AI-generated story proposals on editors.

Nieman Lab said the feature will appear for four consecutive Fridays as a trial. If readers respond positively, the publication plans to continue it in 2027.
