Inde Navarrette used her Saturday Night Live hosting debut to take a playful swipe at former host Shane Gillis, referencing his remarks about women's clothing at the gym during her opening monologue.

While discussing the training she has undertaken for her upcoming role as Rogue in a Marvel X-Men movie, Navarrette said that getting fit was important for the production. She then joked that she put on her “little whore outfit” every morning before going to the gym, prompting laughter and applause from the audience.

The line referred to comments Gillis made three weeks earlier on the same stage, when he said that women “dress like whores now” at the gym. His routine also addressed revealing shorts and the idea of being criticized for looking at them.

Gillis' remarks drew criticism from Dan Levy and former SNL cast members Cecily Strong and Ego Nwodim. Nwodim responded on Instagram Stories with a gym selfie captioned “Whore reporting for duty.”

Navarrette also joked about her personal life while addressing comparisons between herself and Nikki, her character in Obsession. She said her boyfriend was in the audience and that their relationship was relaxed before the broadcast showed Nick Aiello bound and gagged in his seat.

The monologue concluded with Halloween costume appearances from the cast. Marcello Hernandez dressed as a sexy TSA agent, Kam Patterson portrayed Elizabeth Holmes and Jeremy Culhane appeared as Wolverine, hoping Navarrette could help him join her Marvel film and presenting himself as ready for an audition.
